Going Vegan? Already Vegan? Try These 5 Egg Substitutes For Baking

Eating vegan used to be a lot harder than it is now. Thankfully, more and more people are switching to a full, or even partial vegan diet which is allowing the food industry to increase their vegan options!

Today, Wave Soda brings you 5 egg substitutes for baking!

Flegg

No, that's not a made up word!

Flegg is an egg substitute made from flax meal and water.

You can make it by mixing, 1 tbsp flax meal with 3 tbsp of hot water.

Chia Seeds

Chia seeds offer a similar function as the flegg.

To make, mix 1-2 tbsp of chia seeds with hot water and let it sit before adding it to your mixture.

Fun fact: chia seeds are a great source of Omega 3!

Baking Soda and Vinegar

If you've ever mixed baking soda and vinegar together, you know the pair produce a frothy, bubbly mixture.

This will add a fluffy, airiness to your baked goods.

Mix 1 tsp of baking soda with 1 tsp of white vinegar to replace 1 egg.

Applesauce or Mashed Banana

These two egg substitutes will work best in a recipe that already calls for a leavening agent, since the egg would've just been used for moisture.

Use ¼ cup applesauce or mashed banana for 1 egg.

Carbonated Water

Yes that's right! I said carbonated water!

That means, in theory, you can sip your favorite Wave Soda flavor, and also use the sparkling fruit drink in your baking recipe!

Have Fun!

Now that you have these helpful egg substitutes, you don't have to avoid baking your favorite treats any longer!

Even if you aren't vegan, these vegan substitutes can be helpful if you're out of eggs and in a pinch.

The biggest lesson I learned today from creating this post: you can never have too much Wave Soda in your fridge!
